Project Information:
D&D have a long history of transforming concepts into reality on a large scale and working closely with artists. The Sphelix sculpture was the brainchild of Johnny Hawkes many years ago, originally available in small sizes before leading up to an aspirational 2m dia version which could be shipped worldwide.
Following creation of the master pattern, the complex shape needed to be broken down via 3D CAD modelling into a series of intricate moulds enabling a kit of GRP (fibreglass) parts to be cast and assembled to form the complete 360 degree feature before the final stages of meticulous craftmanship led joint finishing, surface preparation to a flawless state and painting.
Available in an extensive range of automotive spray paint colours, this afforded customers the opportunity to select the appearance that most fitted their display scheme, resulting in a stunning high-gloss sculpture.
Seeing an initial drawing compared to the final piece is a powerful reminder of the journey from a flash of inspiration to a tangible reality.
The D&D team are immensely proud of every sculpture leaving our factory and have worked for many high brands via advertising agencies, film studios, exhibitions contracts and end clients direct.
