Organic profiled modular GRP visitor seating with LED illumination for ICON Outlet

Design & Display Structures were engaged by AEG and Crosstree to provide an attractive circular seating solution to wrap around two complex angled penetration points where the primary pylon supports to the tented roof of The O2 passed through the suspended ICON Outlet retail floor.

Using CAD modelling software D&D carefully crafted the organic seating profile before going on to manufacture the pattern tooling, female moulds and then casting the required number of repeating modular fibreglass parts to complete the 360 deg solution. Each seating ring was 4.5m plan dia x 950mm high and in a white RAL colour.

Hidden support frameworks and further flat panels in the same GRP material completed the effect, these being trimmed to neatly close off the middle area yet still offer suitable maintenance access to the electrical components, power transformers and mains connections housed within.

The circular plinth includes a specialist LED Neon Flex curved strip which floods blue light around the base, highlighting the seating provision to visitors from far and wide seeking to take a welcome break from their shopping.

Indeed D&Ds seating proved so attractive to passing visitors they were immediately drawn like a magnet to the two locations just moments after the big reveal and repeat installations around the ICON Outlet are being planned.

ICON Outlet is a brand new 210,000 square foot designer outlet shopping scheme launched in October 2018 by joint venture partners AEG and Crosstree Real Estate Partners. ICON Outlet complements the existing entertainment-orientated offer The O2 has become world famous for, including the 20,000 seat arena, 26 restaurants and bars, an 11-screen cinema, theatre, roof walk and loads more.
